Producer note: Louis-Fabrice Latour and winemaker Jean-Charles Thomas told me that 2015 "provided us with very ripe and perfectly clean fruit. We began picking the domaine vineyards on the 3rd of September and we could pick at a reasonable pace because there was almost no sorting to speak of and once the heat wave broke at the end of August, the harvest conditions were essentially perfect. Quantities were slightly below average in the Côte de Nuits though well below average in the Côte de Beaune, partially due to the damage from several consecutive years of hail and partially because the strong July and August heat evaporated at least some of the juice in the berries. The vinifications were easy and we didn't have to do much at all to obtain very good colors and extractions as the skins were so thick. As to the wines, they have everything that they need to age well yet they're so rich and ripe that they will probably mostly be drunk up in their youth as they're almost irresistibly delicious." Not surprisingly given the generally high quality of the 2015 vintage, I would describe the quality I found here to be correspondingly better than usual. (Louis Latour, Inc. Tasting note: There is plenty of the classic Corton sauvage character present on the intensely earthy, ripe and attractively fresh combination of various red berry fruit scents. The sleek, big-bodied and tautly muscular flavors possess excellent size, weight and concentration while exhibiting a moderate level of youthful austerity on the beautifully persistent finish. This is presently quite tightly wound and a wine that is going to need at least 8 to 10 years first and reward 15 to 20.
